With the 2 million milestone still fresh in our minds from September 2021, our work has not stopped. We continue togrow, expanding our programmes in the countries we serve, and adding new programmes in other parts of the world.

As always, our focus at Mary’s Meals remains on the next hungry child and we have reached many, many more of them over the past six months, experiencing tremendous growth in many of our programme countries.

These expansions include Madagascar, where we have not only grown our in-school feeding with our original partner, Feedback Madagascar, but have also welcomed a brand new partner, Money for Madagascar (MfM). With MfM, we have added 31 schools and six children’s centres in North West Madagascar to the programme in a region of the country where, previously, we were unable to feed.

In Haiti, our partner, BND is now serving Mary’s Meals to more than 100,000 children in the Central Plateau region ofHaiti. This is a remote region with very few local services available to people due to its inaccessibility. This partnership covers a significant proportion of the population, and these latest figures make them the partnerthat feeds the highest number of children in any of our countries, so it’s a remarkable achievement.

We have also expanded our programme in South Sudan - where we have been serving Mary’s Meals since 2008 - through our long-established partnership with Diocese of Rumbek. In addition, we have forged a new partnership with Mary Help Association, meaning we can now provide school feeding in the Wau district of the nation, serving up nutritious meals to an additional 5,000 children.

We grew our programmes in Zambia, Kenya, Zimbabweand Malawi, as well as serving more children in India, Lebanon, and Haiti.

Finally, we added a new country to our operations in January of this year. School feeding began in Yemen, a nation experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises inthe world, where children and communities are in desperate and persistent need. Our partner there, Yemen Aid, assists us with providing more than 4,000 of those children with life-changing meals.

Even now, as we share the news of reaching even more hungry children, our work continues, with each additional child fed a triumph, as well as a reminder that another is waiting. Waiting to have something to fill their stomach, to help them concentrate on their studies and, hopefully, escape the cycle of poverty they were born into.
