Fundraising spotlight

The little acts of love shown by our supporters are the reason we are able to reach so many children with a meal every day they attend school.

Sober for October

Alanna Bradley went Sober for October in aid of Mary’s Meals. She encouraged her friends and fellow students in UCD to donate the average cost of a pint, €5, to help her feed 50 children for an entire school year.

Memory bags for your special moments, feeding children in Liberia

Joe Hughes, 12, and his twin siblings Karen and Peter, 9, are making family memory bags in aid of Mary’s Meals, to raise funds for our school feeding programme at Gofamint Day Care in Liberia.

The Hughes’ came up with the idea of using funky hessian bags to store all your family’s treasured memorabilia – kid’s paintings, first shoes, report cards, etc. – all tied up with a red satin bow, and the perfect size to store under your bed.

The memory bags cost €20 including postage, with proceeds going to Mary’s Meals and two other charities. If you would like to order one, please contact johnhughesireland@gmail.com.

Step by Step

“Step by Step to Feed a Child” is an annual nine-day walk across Ireland, finishing in Knock, County Mayo, to raise money and awareness for us.

The Mary’s Meals Letterkenny supporter group lead the walk from Malin, County Donegal, with others joining them along the way.

Breidge McLaughlin from the group said: “For me the walk is challenging and definitely "Step by Step" all the way, but picturing the smile on the face of the next wee girl or boy when they are given the opportunity to receive Mary's Meals is what keeps me on the road.

“It’s such good fun, too; we keep each other going and there are always plenty laughs along the way.”

If you’d like to join in the fun next year, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us online.

Polishing for pennies

Students of Coláiste Phádraig CBS School in Lucan, County Dublin, organised a hands-on day of car washing to raise funds for Mary’s Meals.

They washed their teachers’ cars and collected sponsorship in return, raising enough to ensure that 14 children would be provided with a daily meal from Mary’s Meals for a whole school year.
